Longton Elim Church is a fellowship of about 200 people of all ages whose aim is to love,
follow and serve the lord Jesus Christ what are the priorities and characteristics of the church?
It is …..BIBLE BASED Biblical preaching and teaching is of primary importance. The church has hosted
internationally known speakers such as Colin Urquhart, Trevor Dearing and Terry Law. The ministry of God's Word
is also given by the pastor, gifted speakers within the congregation.
CHRIST-CENTERED Longton Elim seeks to exalt Jesus Christ
through inspired worship as voices and instruments blend to offer praise to God. An excellent praise band
leads the praise on Sunday evenings. Worship tends to be a little quieter but still vibrant on Sunday
mornings when the communion is also celebrated.
SPIRIT-DIRECTED The church leadership and congregation endeavour to be led by the Holy Spirit and to
allow the Gifts of the Spirit to operate.
PEOPLE-ORIENTATED The church is not bricks and mortar but people who are precious to God. Relating
together as brothers and sisters in Christ is of primary importance. There are many trained workers in the
church who are willing to help people overcome various problems in such areas as marriage, family and emotions,
etc. Healing is offered with the laying on of hands.
EVANGELISTICALLY-ACTIVE The church seeks to reach out in love
to people who have not yet come into the joyful experience of salvation. Members endeavour to be
"ambassadors for Christ" wherever they live and work. Outreach teams have visited hundreds of homes
taking videos of the life of Christ and other materials. Many outreach projects have been conducted over
the years. The latest outreach programme to be launched is "Healing on the Streets" where prayer is
offered there and then to those who are willing to receive it. This ministry has proved to be quite
fruitful.
MISSIONARY-MINDED Longton is one of the top giving Elim Churches, raising thousands of pounds every year
for missions. An enthusiastic team use their skills to make things which are sold to raise funds. They arrange
missionary visits and events, which draw people from many different churches. Dr. Abu Khan Choudhury, and his
late wife Esther went out from Longton Elim Church as missionaries to India and are doing great work amongst
people in the slums of Delhi. They have established community centres providing education for children, adult
literacy classes and a Christian witness. In more recent times 25 year old Becky Hallworth has gone to Romania
as a missionary. Becky grew up in Longton Elim Church and enjoys the admiration, prayers and support of the
church family.
